Business is about the Future

In order to make a certain amount of wealth and build something great, something I'm beginning to learn is you need to buy the future (I'm borrowing that from Mensa Otabil). Business is all about dealing with the future. You have to conceptualize the future or have foresight and a vision about what the future is going to look like, and work in the present to get there.

To look at some examples, look at Amazon. Before Amazon.com, there was the internet boom. Jeff Bezos saw that the internet usage was growing at 2,300% per year and he began to think of the future. He was trying to conceptualize and visualize what such a world would need, and he picked his own industry in the e-commerce lane. eBay picked buying and selling or auctioning, but Amazon picked actually selling. It was about buying the future, being able to conceptualize something, not the present, and working with grit and patience towards the future.

It's not going to be an easy road. You're going to have to face uncertainties, competition, doubts, pressure, economic shocks. You would have to cultivate a growth mindset to learn. You're going to have to try multiple ideas. Some ideas are going to work and some are not going to work; some would need to be cultivated or evolve to something else, but it is essentially about the future, a dream, and a vision, and being able to work tirelessly towards that.
